Applications

Below you can find the various applications which I’ve released.

sp_who3

I’ve written an update for sp_who2 which I call sp_who3.  It can be most useful when trying to diagnose slow running queries as it can provide a wealth of information in a single screen.

Usage:
exec sp_who3
exec sp_who3 active
exec sp_who3 blocked
exec sp_who3 72 /*Any active spid*/

Download: SQL 7 / SQL 2000 / SQL 2005 - SQL 2012

When using no parameter the output will match the output of sp_who2.

When using the “active” keyword the output will match the output of sp_who2 active.

When using the “blocked” keyword the output will have the same columns as sp_who3 active but show only the blocking and blocked processes.

Split Multi Plan File

Recently I was working with a client, and the client wanted to send me a batch of SQL Server execution plans (about 300 of them) in a single file.  Normally I would just connect to the SQL Server and view the queries from there, but the client hadn’t gotten me VPN access to their network yet, so that wasn’t an option.  I didn’t really want to copy and paste the plans from the text file that they sent me one at a time, so I threw a little app together and figured that I should post it online in case any one else runs into this problem.  Just give it the big text file and point it towards an empty folder then click go.

To get a file for this thing, query for execution plans from the query plan.  Select the column with the plans, copy it and paste it into a text file.  That’s it.  It parses based on the XML of the execution plans.  If you see any problems with the app just let me know.

WordPress Plugins

“My Default Post Content” WordPress Plugin

I’ve written another WordPress plugin which allows you to set the default subject and body of blog posts which will allow you to save time when writing blog posts which have the same content.

This plugin sets the title and body of new blog posts so that when the post contain the same content each time that same content doesn’t need to be typed in each time.  This plugin differs from others in that it supports setting the subject as well as the body of the blog post.

You can find out more about the WordPress plugin as well as the current build on the Plugin’s page on the WordPress website.

While this plugin is free if you’d like to make a donation to support the continued development of this plugin it would be fantastic.

“Email CoAuthor On Post” WordPress Plugin

I’ve written a nice little WordPress plugin which allows you to email other people besides the author when a blog post is published.  The description of the plugin is pretty basic.

This plugin solves a missing feature in WordPress.  This missing feature is the ability to email the subject or co-author of the blog post when the post which they assisted with is published.  This plugin solves this problem by allowing each blog post to have the ability to email a different email address for each post as it is published.
